Plugins

Plugins are valuable tools that add new features and functionality to your website without requiring modifications to the core files of WordPress. They allow you to enhance and customize your site according to your specific needs.

In our WordPress installation, we already provide a selection of plugins, including both third-party plugins and ones developed specifically for the Wake Forest community. However, we also accept requests for additional third-party plugins that you may want us to install on your site. To submit such requests, or to have an existing plugin enabled, please use our Web Request Form. Plugin requests are subject to our Third-Party Plugin Policy.

We may already have an existing plugin that offers the functionality you need. If that’s the case, we’ll let you know and add it to your website. However, if we don’t have a suitable plugin available, we will review your requested plugin for several important factors:

  • Security: Ensuring the security of our website network is crucial. We will assess the requested plugin for any potential security vulnerabilities and evaluate the reputation and trustworthiness of its developer.
  • Compatibility: It’s important to maintain compatibility within our WordPress installation. We will check if the requested plugin is compatible with our system and other plugins to avoid conflicts and technical issues.
  • Accessibility: We prioritize providing an accessible website experience for all users. We will review the requested plugin to ensure it aligns with accessibility guidelines and doesn’t hinder the usability of our sites.
  • Opportunity for Reuse: In order to optimize efficiency and ensure a well-managed plugin ecosystem, we will evaluate whether the requested plugin has the potential for reuse on other sites within our network.

To ensure a comprehensive review process, certain plugin requests undergo an additional evaluation by the WordPress Governance Group, in addition to our internal review. Please anticipate a 4-6 week approval timeline for your plugin request, which encompasses internal review, WordPress Governance Group review, testing, implementation, and deployment.
