In addition to bug fixes and plugin updates, today’s deployment includes a couple of link-related items.

“Opens in a new tab” Icon

We’ve added a new automatic icon and screen reader label for links that open in a new tab to help meet accessibility best practices. These aids help users know what to expect; however, remember that opening links in a new tab is usually considered inaccessible. It can confuse people with low vision who rely on screen readers or anyone who expects to use the “back” button. Use new tab links only in specific cases, like when linking to external sites or downloadable files. Learn more in our updated accessibility guidance.

We’ve worked hard to ensure this icon displays consistently across all WordPress blocks and scenarios, but if you notice anything unusual, please let us know. We plan to extend this functionality to your navigation menu in a future update.

GoLinks Cleanup

We’ve updated our Go Link instructions. Please be aware that you cannot use Go Links to link to invoices, payment systems or any non-WFU form that accepts credit cards. We’d also request that you delete any Go Links that you no longer need.

Survey Reminder

We’re planning to improve the Wake Forest WordPress Guide, and we’d love your input. This quick survey takes a few minutes, and your answers will help shape future improvements. If you haven’t already done so, please complete this brief survey.

Our comprehensive WordPress Guide contains even more helpful information and resources. As always, feel free to reach out using the Digital Request Form if you have any questions.
