WP 2.11.12 – Keep your content secure
Today’s deployment includes 4 plugin updates as well as performance improvements to our Event Fundraising theme and GoLinks site.
Reminder About AI Bots and Privacy
With the growing use of AI-generated search results, it’s more essential than ever to keep your public website content current. Any published page on your site can be found by AI bots and search engines, even if it’s not visible in your menu.
Take a moment to look at your page list on the backend of your website and turn any out-of-date pages into drafts, password protect or redirect them, and review the content on any live pages to make sure it is current and true.
If you’re using the “Pages or Posts not to Index“ setting or tools like Yoast SEO to keep certain content out of search engines, keep in mind: AI bots may not respect those settings. Unlike traditional search engines, AI crawlers don’t always follow the rules. That means content you’ve marked as “do not index” could still be scraped or used to train AI models.
Remember, if you truly want to keep something private, the only reliable option is to password protect the page or restrict access with a login. Our website posts and pages come equipped with WFU Authentication which protects pages from anyone outside of the WFU network.
